What size fret wire does Hamer use?

Anybody know for sure?

I'm having my '79 Sunburst refretted. Tomorrow I'm taking my luthier several examples of guitars that feel really good. One of them is an '05 Studio Custom I just picked up... was wondering what size frets come stock on Hamers these days?

Looking at some different guitars and this Fender article, I think 6105 sounds about right.

Found some old HFC posts with measurements. At the luthier's place today we also took out some calipers and measured a couple of guitars that feel really nice to me.

Went with the 6105 wire. Will get it back in a week or two... looking forward to having this Sunburst in perfect playing condition. I've had it for a year and know I like the tone. But it really needed some fret love.

Just curious, was the original frets on your '79 Standard (the ones that didn't have much use, that is) kinda flat and wide, as compared to the 'modern' Hamers? I had a few early '80's Specials, I thought the original fret wire was kinda flat and wide in comparison, even the original, bigger frets on my early'80's Hamer basses were kinda flat and wide in comparison with later Hamer basses.

It's a Sunburst, but you are correct about the frets. They were flat and wide and had been re-surfaced so many times there just wasn't much left.

I found some old HFC posts that said Hamer is using a .050 x .100 wire. That info, along with some measurements of the frets on an '05 Studio Custom confirmed for me that 6105 was what I wanted. That's not what the original frets were, but it's very close to a modern Hamer.

Should feel a whole lot better with the new frets.
