Brooks Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Of course the amp you're going through makes all the difference. Did you check out the Randy sound check video? It's only about a minute long. They did Smoke on the Water with Gillian? I'd love to see that! Was ELO drummer Bev Bevan on that tour or was it Vinny Appice? yep. the tone wizard juices the front end ofmy carr rambler (clean 6L6 1x12 combo) to sustain and barely distort. turn the guitar volume down and the gain backs off, subtle but really nice classic rawk tone. when i run the carr thru my closed back V30 1x12 cab it gets closer to iommi territory.i will check the RR clip when i get home (i'm in iowa visiting friends this weekend, no speakers here on the hotel computer).bev played drums on the born again tour. it was a cool show, gillian picked a bunch of obscure sabs tunes to do, like "rock n roll doctor" and "supernaut".
Guest Buck Dharma Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Wow, Clapton, SRV, Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Neil Young, Alex Lifeson all had bad tone?......................who in the world, then, had good tone? I gotta agree with that statement. Starting to wonder if I'm on the wrong site when people dislike those tones but like Cheap Trick and Kiss tone. I love Sabbath Paranoid sound. Neil Young plays a 50's Black Beauty into a vintage Fender Deluxe Tweed. Yeah thats horrible! I love Rush but think the tone is lacking since about 2112 era. The old Gibsons into Marshalls sounded great to me and Alex is great with the feedback. If you watch the Crossroads festival DVD check out Clapton and Carlos doing Jingo Carlos's tone and playing just blows out Claptons fake Lace sensor crappy strat tone. I feel embarrased for him every time I watch it.
