Seeing as I have a problem at the moment coveting SS Hamers, I stumbled on one in a shop in the UK with no description or photos on their website with a high price tag. Intrigued, I begun my investigations with requesting some info and photos, thusly.....
>Please could you give me some further info about this SS1 and a few photos, as there aren’t any on the website, for example the year (or S/N is fine), whether it’s an SS1 Standard or Custom, if the OHSC is there with it, damage and condition, all the usual stuff.

I had a nice swift reply today with the following info.....

There's no serial number we can find on the outside, but we believe it
originates from 1984-85.
The white colour is clearly factory, but there are traces of either an
undercoat or a previous coat of pink to be seen in the electronics
cavity.
There is a crack in the usual place behind the Floyd Rose nut which has been there for many years and seems to be stable.
It has the original trem & arm but there is no case.

The little grey cells started working..... Hmmm no serial number, pink in the cavities.... Well you can guess where I was going.... So i checked out the evidence...

Hmmm something fishy about those logos.... I've not seen them arranged like that on any other SS...
Rosewood board with crowns? a bit odd.....22 frets - well the 22 says 85 ish... But that wood with crowns... I need an expert to look at that...
Knobs look a bit funny from here...
White pickup surround... Also odd. The single coils look right for the age.... But the cavities I think should be black painted.....
MXR knobs... I think they should be the big plastic ones... I thought that because I hate the big ones...
Oooh spidery!
So my conclusions... Age is right... Non recessed OFR and all that Headstock break and refin in white from fabo pink...possibly it was a SS proto as th logos are the wrong way around, and if the owner didn't know where they were supposed to be it might explain why they are like that... And over sprayed the SN....
Changed knobs and pickup surround...
The crowns on rosewood is an unknown to me...I would have thought it would be ebony for that arrangement?
No HSC, all the above mystery oddities... Lead me to believe that their asking price of 995 quid (yes!) is probably a country mile out of where it should be....
What do you think?
Cheers,
Benner.
Oh, and the horn mounted strap button... That ought to be at the base of the neck I would have thought...
