FrettyMcgee Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I ran into a sweet deal for a set of 1980s Ultrasonic pickups. But now that they've arrived, I'm wondering if a couple of them are legit. I've only seen the "open soldering" type like the W. Germany Ref 1 model in the picture. The other 2 make me go, "Hmmmm..." (while stroking my almost beard). The resin on the back and grey cable set off my b.s. alarm. As well, the Ref 2 pickup has rounded mounting "legs" unlike the other two. But the Ultrasonic logo is identical on all 3...if it's a faked logo its near perfect. Having said this, I know very little about the years they were produced. So, I dunno. There's verrrry little info out there on the production and history of the Ultrasonics. At best, maybe they are from different production years...and at worst, 2 are fakes. Does anyone here have any info or experience with these?

The 3 might have had some kind of update to prevent stresses breaking the leads from the board. I can clearly see the board under the red.Why would somebody fake these? They're so obscure and are only desireable to a few. I have a set of the buckers and they pretty much just sound like Lawrences, to me.
