velorush Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I'm trying to take a few grams off the headstock of the Howard as the trapeze is significantly lighter than the 'fingers' tailpiece it replaced. Anyone know what buttons would fit these '91 Gibson tuners? They are sealed tuners that just say "Gibson" on them, no set screw: I tried the Grover buttons from the Senior (just to see if they fit), but they are too small for the shaft. Are Schaller buttons larger than Grovers? The flat cross section of the shaft measures 0.139"; the round cross section is 0.163" The Grovers, FWIW, measure 0.140" across the flat part, 0.154" across the round.
velorush Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Germans rock! I can find no technical drawings on the net other than Schaller.Converting mm to inches, Schaller buttons measure 0.142" flat section, 0.165" round section. I'm unfamiliar with how important the tolerances are; any opinions on whether these would work? We're talking a couple thousandths of an inch!
