Oiling a Torrefied/Baked Maple fretboard

I picked up a 2011 Melody Maker with a torrefied/baked maple fretboard yesterday. I oiled the fretboard last night with mineral oil and it soaked in immediately. I've never had this happen on any rosewood or ebony board - it usually soaks in slowly and I wipe off any excess after 30 minutes or so.

So how much oil is too much? Should I keep applying until it stops soaking in so fast?

I'd imagine that because of the manufacturing process the baked maple is seriously dry to begin with, which would explain it soaking in so much. I've crossed baths with a number of Far East import guitars with RW fingerboards that absolutely swallowed the oil. In response, I didn't necessarily drown them, but I did put on two or three hefty applications. For the first time out, it doesn't seem to hurt anything and helps stabilize the wood. After that you can stick to whatever your normal schedule is.
