Headphone replacement Cable

3.5mm / 1/8 stereo plug to bare wire.

I've been looking for this type of replacement cable and haven't found one. I guess I could build it but I'd rather try to find one. Most of the replacement headphone cables I've found have some type of connection rather than bare wire. I would have to solder the new cable to fix the headphones.

If you know of a source I would love to know where to find this.

Thanks

Why not just get a stereo mini extension cable that has the weight and flexibility you want, cut off one end and strip the wire? Or do you need the stethoscope style where the right and left channels separate somewhere under your chin? In that case, get a Sennheiser replacement cord and cut off and strip the two separate leads that go the the earcups.

Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.

I tried that with a couple of different cables. Of the ones I tried the wires ended up being a solid center wire with a wrapped wire around the center wire. Didn't work well. I don't want to buy the Sennheiser replacement cord and run into the same situation.

That doesn't sound right. A stereo headphone cable must have two conductor wires, one for right channel and one for left, plus one or two ground wires. The right channel wire is almost always red; the left channel is usually green, white or blue. The ground wire or wires are either bare wire (silvered or copper) or have copper-colored insulation.

Here's a very inexpensive example of what you're looking for. Notice there are red and white leads (right & left respectively) and a third, bare wire (ground for both channels). This is what you should see when you snip a stereo headphone cable, strip back the insulation and separate the wires carefully.

This forum thread describes making sure you get the connections right, and here's a schematic from that page.
