Bass strings?

I have always used DiAddario's just because that;s what I use on my guitars. I just got a fantastic new bass and want to try something new just for kicks. I play fingerstyle 90% of the time and dig a very rich, "piano" tone. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Those Yamaha BBs are sweet! Try stainless steel strings on yours if you want more of a "piano" R&B type tone, like DR or something.

I usually stick with D'Addario...I'm sure there may be better strings out there, but I like how consistent they are and that is important to me. I tried to switch to Ernie Ball after doing a session early last year and liking the feel of the strings on some of the studio basses, but I didn't find that they had the same consistency pack to pack that D'Addario does. Was using the normal 50-105 nickel steel set but tried the ProSteels on my main bass for the tour I just finished. Initially I wanted to use them just because I thought they might last longer and I could save some dough but I felt like I got a wider frequency range from them as well-deeper sound when doing real dubby stuff and nice when played aggressively too. I was worried they'd just have that super bright "modern" sound which isn't really my thing but they didn't really. Figures that a lot of guys I like use stainless steel strings also-Chris Squire, John Entwistle, Sting, Brian Cook, etc. So I have those on one bass and some Ernie Ball flatwounds on another, really want to try the LaBella flats soon! Enjoy your new bass!
