Chap switching combinations

Question

Hello experts,

I have recently acquired a rather lovel '86 Chap custom with the three three-way toggle switches (thank you Peter). Pictures will follow on another post some time next week.

I have a feeling they are for reverse phasing of the single coils etc (from reading Andrews excellent articles).

Can anyone advise exactly what these three mini togle's do and their combinations?

For Slammer pickups:

First one (from the bottom) is humbucker on full (down) , or tapped (up).

Second is middle pickup on or reverse phase.

Third is neck pickup on or reverse phase.

Middle position is off for each of the three pickups.

This allows the tapped humbucker to be 'wired' in or out of phase with one single coil in parallel, noise canceling out of phase. And many other combinations including everything on.

The two singles out of phase sound terrible.

I am not as sure about OBL pickups but should be the same except the singles are in fact mini-humbuckers (two conductor and no facility for tapping), so the noise canceling bit will not apply. Many Chaparrals and TLEs were a mix of OBL and Slammer.

Always thought the 'all off' thing was a bit daft, although i never did switch myself off live with mine and yes, the two singles out of phase is probably the nastiest sound i've ever got out of a guitar !
