Jimbilly Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 A guy is selling a project Ampeg b15n near me, I should be able to see it in a day or two, but he want's me to make an offer. He's pretty certain it's a '63, and I think he's right per the serial # he gave me, he says it blows fuses on startup, the tolex is a bit worn, no casters and the 'on' light is missing. What would be too much?, if it's blowing fuses, -at least it still has that capability. Prepal.com says they're selling for $480 which sounds low, and There's only one on ebay w/ a starting bid of $900. Nice ones are probably around $1k? A project in fair condition should be worth $200 or less? What do you all think?
halide Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 i would say for $200 you should be able to get it running and still be in the ballpark of a fair price. i wouldn't pay much more without being able to do some more investigating. very clean examples go for close to $1k depending.

I see them all the time with blown power transformers (hey.. lets put in a bigger fuse) followed by shorted caps. Repro PT's are availble.. the new ampeg iron oes not have a rectifier tap.. mercury magnetics will put the correct repro PT in "your" tar filled square can to keep the vintage look..lamps are cheap rat shack items..
HAMERMAN Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 The transformers are expensive (compared to a typical fender transformer for instance), just make sure you know that going in.
