Forum question: Why don't I get the same kind of notifications for my threads that I do for my posts?

When I post on an existing thread, I get all these nice notifications of how amusing I am to strangers over the internet up in the header. It's why I get up in the morning.

When I post a thread, I don't seem to get notifications of replies in the same place even though I'm "following" the thread. Is there a way I can make the second act more like the first?

When I first joined up I hit the follow button all the time. Then I discovered it didn't work.
