Determining what year my Hamer is

I just got a Hamer Checkerboard Special. The seller said it was an 81. The serial number is so faded I can barely see it. How else can I determine what year it is?

• Early 80s is the right ballpark for the checkerboard logo.  You could check the pot codes (if original) and get a "no-later-than" date.
• You might also try taking a high-res photo and blowing it up on the computer.  Lots of times things not seen by the naked eye become clearly visible in a photo.
