Well, there is no more Hamer, so don't wait around for an answer!

As far as setups go they are kind of personal. If I'm not mistaken in '94 the Studio was shipped with 9's, they subsequently changed that to 10's.

My own personal preference is the neck pretty straight with minimal to no relief and action as low as it will go without buzzing. I have a pretty light touch. If I was a heavy hitter that might not work. Experiment, as long as you don't crank the truss rod too hard there is little you can do that can't be undone!

ArnieZ is right. You can achieve very low action on a good studio. 2/64" at the 12th fret is possible. (1/32) 3/64" is common and 4/64" to me is high. (1/16").

Setup is easy. Get yourself a good straightedge that is as long as the fretboard or longer. Lower the pickups if they are in the way. Tune the guitar to your tuning. place the straightedge between the strings resting on top of the frets. Check it against a light or window to see if there is a gap between the bottom of the straightedge and the top of the frets. If so, loosen the strings a bit and tighten the truss rod. Tune back up and repeat. Once the neck is straight or has your desired relief you can adjust the action height with the bridge. ACE hardware sells an accurate metal ruler in 1/64" increments for less than 5 bucks. You can also get a good straightedge there. If all the frets play well you are done. If all is well but you have a few areas that buzz then you have another problem. You can either ignore it and raise the action a bit higher and live with it or you can take it somewhere and have the frets dressed. Or, you can do it yourself. It's not that hard to do on nickel frets but I wouldn't tackle it on SS.
