What tuners for Slammer Series "Sunburst"?

The tuners on my MIK Sunburst are kind of "meh".  They don't seem very stable and I think they might just be wearing out.  After all, they are 20-ish years old.  The existing tuners have mini-sized bodies, but appear to have full-sized buttons.

After a complete electronics upgrade (Josh's pickups, new CTS and Switchcraft everything) I figured I'd upgrade the tuners.  I assume the "right" tuners for a sunburst are full-sized Schaller M6, a tuner I know well because I had them on several LPs and other guitars back in the '80s.  But hoo-weee!  70 bucks for tuners on a $200 import?  Let's think about this for a minute...

I see Stew Mac also has Gotoh "Schaller"-style tuners which cost about 2/3 of what real Schallers cost.  I know Gotoh is pretty much the go-to, best-in-class stuff from Asia, but really don't have any experience with them. 

Given how little I play anymore, this will probably be the last set of tuners I ever need to buy for this guitar, so what do you-all recommend?  Schaller, Gotoh, or something else?   Full-size or mini?

Hey man,

I'm a big fan of the imports. Especially with upgraded tuners, and possibly pickups they are a great bang for the buck. With Josh's stuff you are way ahead of the game.

In the past I've taken the stock schallers off of USA Hamers (replaced with locking schaller replacements) and used the originals on imports or other guitars. Such a difference on the imports.

I use à very cheap solution for my Korean Hamer : remove tuners, some white glue - for wood- in the holes,then go back tuners. Wait an hour. New strings, "et hop" ! Perfect tuning
