LucSulla Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 So, I was looking at getting something with the Celestion Neo-Creambacks after playing on a cab with them a few months ago. I loved how they sounded, as I am a little tired of V30s, especially with this Friedman, and the lower sensitivity seemed to really help to get the power tubes working without as much volume getting pushed out the front. Plus, they weigh 4 lb.! All around awesome speakers if you dig creambacks. I found V Boutique after looking up who was building cabs for Bogner, Friedman, and so on, and figured I'd go straight to the source (though they don't build for anyone anymore I don't believe). I ended up picking up the 2x12 Cube:https://www.vboutiqueusa.com/shop/v-cube/ Man, I love this thing! I selected the brown, western faux-leather covering with the silver grill, and it is just gorgeous. Loaded with two neo's, the final prices was $539. I finally got back from Ireland and picked it up from my father's place, and I couldn't be more happy. It's light; seems lighter than the Small Box, which weighs 33lb. Yet the 2x12 cube performs exactly like you'd expect. It sounds like a Bogner cube with two 12s, haha. It's almost as thumpy as my Mesa 2x12 vert, yet it weighs half as much and has 2/3s the footprint. The Small Box loves it. Highly recommend if you are looking for a well-built, light-weight, 2x12 cab that still has some balls. Speakers sound exactly like I want Celestions to sound, and the 97db sensitivity does make a big difference. Aside from just being so light it feels like you cheating, the compact size also makes throwing up a small, plexiglass baffle a breeze, which also makes a noticeable difference. I can finally get the power tubes in the Friedman doing work without worrying about killing people up front. Finally, the convertible back works very well if you are in a situation where maybe a little less thump is needed but you need to get a little more sound going in every direction on stage.
RobB Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 That's a smart purchase there, Luc. The Neos do a lot to reduce the weight. Glad you like them, lotsa players hear those speakers with their eyes. Bassist I play with is ditching his Boogie RoadReady Strategy 400/Cab (all 225lbs of them, hooray!), downsizing to an Ampeg V-4b. Vboutique's 2x10 looks like just the ticket for our downsizing. Thanks for the link.
