beezerboy Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 in a way, this project starter about 50 years ago. in 1970 I bought a '53 Tele as a backup. the neck pickup had been gouged out for a humbucker. I paid $75 for it because the neck pup was missing. in '72 I bought a Demarzio Super Distortion (first year of the SD?) and put that in the hole... it was a terrible mismatch. I didn't play it much, and a couple years later I took it out and threw it in a box. a couple years ago I scored this Warmoth neck in a trade... I gave up an Echorec and 50 bucks for this excellent condition, low use neck. the guy even had the receipt and including the tuners, he paid something like 500 bucks, 10 years ago. I've been meaning to build an offset and bought this pine body off fleabay a year ago or so. a couple months ago I read this thing about fractal burning and the project came together. after some experimentation on a plain pine board I figured out the best approach. I color dyed the body to match the neck, did the burn, then a couple coats of clear lacquer, then filled the burn lines with clear casting epoxy, then 3 coats PPG Deltron clear. the vintage SD is in the bridge position where it belongs and a new production SD in the neck. fitted with a 4 way switch, no coil splits. it came out great... light weight, plays good, sounds good
specialk Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Thanks for the pics. Looks like it turned out great from the close-up shot! Fractals are cool. Congrats.
