gorch Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Sometimes you buy things when they arrive you don't know why you bought them. So it is with this one. I'm not playing bass however. Maybe, because it looked cheap to me. At least my son could use it. He already tested the bass and said it plays and sounds great. This one has two XD5 active pickups in it. It came in a case, a screw driver included for battery changes. A new battery was also included. As the sun came out, I took the chance to take pictures. Any one know any history? This one is supposed to be from the 80s
Jimbilly Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Those are really good pickups, I'll bet that's a nice bass. It's the same shape/style as my '89 Chap5 (setneck). I imagine it's very late '80s or early '90s.
crunchee Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Nice bass! I especially like the 'reverse' headstock, I'd think that would add a little more tension to the low B (I dislike 5 strings with floppy Bs). I'd bet this is a mid to late 90's import (maybe later, considering the 'Slammer series' name), but that's just a guess. I didn't think Hamer HAD import models until at least the mid '90's. Does anyone have a reliable timeline on Hamer imports regards series names and countries of origin?
Jimbilly Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I posted a question about how the reverse headstock affects the low B, Jol responded and I printed it out and stuck it in my Chap5 case. From an hfc posting on 09/09/1999, Jol stated: "The longer length of the string adds tension regardless of whether it is before or after the nut. The "reverse" headstock on the Chaparral adds tension to the low B.This is counter-intuitive but we have done the testing to prove it"
gorch Posted January 5, 2011 Author Posted January 5, 2011 Many thanks for your comments. The seller stated it being an 80s production bass. So, believe it or not...My son likes to play the bass a lot. Maybe we do some bass swapping within the family before some else's catching it.
