FS: '96 Daytona 3-Tone 'burst, Alder/RW, HSS

I love everything about this guitar except the neck profile. I have been debating fishing for a neck swap, but decided to release it instead. This is a GREAT Daytona in a fairly uncommon color, with a welcome mod for some. The woods used are stellar across the board (no pun intended) and they really nailed the 3-tone 'burst on this one to show the Alder off.

This one was sold to me as a factory stock H-S-S, but that is not the case. Nevertheless, it sounds mighty fine with the DiMarzio Al Di Meola hummer in the bridge (tappable with the mini-switch I installed). As far as wear, there are a couple bruises on the body (one on the arm carve and one on the bottom back edge) and one on the headstock face, but they are not crushing blows that have exposed wood or anything, just some minor wear from use in the real world. The frets are showing the beginnings of some "cowboy chord" wear, but have lots and lots of life and may have never been kissed yet. The ugliest part is the Wilky doing its Wilky thing and corroding at the saddles. The worst is the E-A-D trio, but there are many options including just playing the thing and being diligent with the cloth if you are a sweaty beast. The pics here do not reflect the level of corrosion currently present (or the mini-toggle on the pg).

The issue I mentioned with the neck profile is the fact that the back of the neck is very flat rather than rounded. I am used to a "C" and this is a wide, flattened "D" shape. Not overly thin, just not full and round like my aging wrist prefers. If it doesn't sell I will seek out a neck swap for sure.

Oh, this one has the locking Schallers and a HSC that is not labeled as Hamer. It also comes with the stock pearl white S-S-S pickguard. How about $700$650 shipped? More pics will be forthcoming if there is any interest. I can be reached at 612-703-3990 if you have any questions. Thanks!

I may be able to summon a reference or 2 if needed. Maybe. Ah, trust me, I'm in the phone book!

Upon further review, it looks like I have a bit less into this than I had thought, so let's say $650 is the asking price.

I played this guitar last summer at one of the HFC gatherings as did Jeff R (feel free to chime in Jeff).

This guitar plain ROCKED!!! Super versatile and is a steal at $650.

Bumped with a new link to more recent pics.

This guitar is also now sporting a DiMarzio Blue Velvet in the middle slot and a new Area 58 in the neck. As you can see, I have also installed pearl tuner buttons just because.

Still has a bit of both BadgerDave and JeffR lingering, too. We call that Mojo. B)

Off to Ebay soon, so make an offer if you are drawn.........

Thanks.

If I hadn't just bought an SSH Daytona, I'd be all over that! Whoever buys it should restore it to stock and sell me the pickguard B)

Hmmm, and I'm actually looking for a G&L Legacy or Daytona to load a P90/HB pickguard into,,, maybe we can split this one up... though the mods do sound kinda cool, I might like them...

Or you could just buy this from me :D

What does the Al Dimeola pickup sound like btw. Was it based on some other Dimarzio like a superdistortion or something?

Need a fretless Cruise?

:D

Of course.

Oh, and the DiMeola is proving to be a very nice pickup in this guitar, in fact I like it a lot and have been seeking another in black for a build I'm doing. I did a little research and found some saying it was similar to the Tone Zone but with different mids, but to me it is just a great balance of grunt and clarity, plus it splits extremely well. Very well-balanced tonally and nothing offensive about it at all, except the fact that you can't pick one up too readily (custom-order I'm discovering).

I had a guitar once with a pair of DiMarzio pickups called the "Double Whammy", and that one is equally under the radar but I thought it was fantastic, too.

Vinnie Moore used the Double Whammy IIRC.

-Austin

That would seem appropriate as it was an Ibanez Vinnie Moore model that sported the pickups! B)

I've got a pink Double Whammy sitting around here...

Want! If you aren't going to use it, I have the perfect home for it.....

BTW, the Daytona is off to a new, loving home in exchange for something equally groovy  .
