  1. I've got a tailpiece that's lost it's gold... I tried a Gibson one, and it didn't fit. I remember someone saying the bridges were Imperial, but the tailpiece was metric... odd. Anyone know for sure? Is there a brand with better gold plating, Gotoh or Tonepros etc... I also need a couple metric jack nuts and washers (for a different project) in gold... lots of Imperial ones around...
  2. I think it's pretty hard to beat a Duncan Alnico Pro II in the neck.
  3. The '50s mod of moving the cap does absolutely nothing until you turn the volume knob down. So if you keep it on 10... it's not going to do anything at all. Literally nothing. 500k pots give you a touch more output and it's a touch brighter too.
  4. I've got one... it's actually pretty sweet. Great standing or sitting down. Ace says he hated it. It's nothing like a Les Paul. They didn't make many... Ace is in his 70s... the price will go insane one day... every time he coughs I get a hard on...
  5. The EVH D-tuna came chrome... it looked like his pants were unzipped Changed it to black... much better. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it worked.
  6. I'm happy to see that beautiful guitar has found a home... but u still don't see why you'd care if he refused to okay taxes etc. You got paid, it's as described, you shipped it properly... done. Let it rot on a truck. Not your problem.
  7. Curious... If the buyer paid for the guitar... then refused to pay tax/duties, what's it to you?
  8. They both rock. The Katana has many more effects, but is quite a bit thinner sounding.
  9. I was over at a friend's house and he just got a Line 6 Catalyst 60... in moments I got a killer high gain sound with loads of bottom, it's not boxy, and no shrieking mids... and loads of air... at low volumes. And then you can turn it up! The cleans are excellent and get really loud too. I found a Catalyst 100 the next day and snatched it right up. It doesn't have a lot of "stuff"... few amps and few effects, but a couple clean and a couple dirty and I've got what I want for amps and the reverb and delay are all I need for effects, (and you can choose from 6 of each). It's got an effects loop and direct out that people seem to really like. There's a basic app to tweak a few things, but it's pretty limited. All my other high gain amps are tube and make so much noise I'm just used to suffering with it. But i hate the noise, even at low volume playing while watching TV. And the lack of bottom end and air at lower volumes requires an outboard EQ. With the Catalyst, I didn't even turn on the built-in noise gate for ages. It was so comparatively quiet. The obvious cons are it doesn't feel rugged. I guess to keep the weight down, it's really light, but I bet the tolex would tear easy. But they are really inexpensive. Next, it defaults with the reverb and delay before the distortion... press this turn that and you can move it... but i can imagine people giving up before finding it can move. And the foot switche is optional and only switches between channels A/B and turns the effects on and off. My pair of Peavey 5150 2x12 sound awesome but are noisy as Hell, clean is worthless (not that i really care). I really want to change the speakers in my EVH 5150 2x12... they're shrieky with zero bottom (2 Celestian Anniversary) until you really turn it up to stupid volumes... but this whole amp was less then a couple raw speakers. So... for now... it's replacing a EVH 5150 2x12 with a Line 6 HX Effects for delay and reverb in the loop...
  10. I just realized KiSS have my Chinese name stenciled on loads of stuff... that's nice of them.
  11. I've still got about 2 dozen USA Deans here... they rock.
  12. Enjoy... as you can tell, I'm not the kind of guy who wants to learn Three Blind Mice type stuff.
  13. I've had my synth for a month or so... so I made a ring tone for my nephew... He loves horror movies et al D minor.m4a
  14. Just a reminder, if you've got pedals or guitars with active pickups or preamps in it, and you're not playing them for awhile, remove the batteries. Battery leakage can be heart breaking. Picture because some people can't seem to figure out what battery leakage is
  15. KiSS Winterland show 1975 Ace tapping at 24 minutes, long before Eddie
  16. I got an EVH 5150III 2x12 a while ago... year or two maybe... i tugged it up to the second floor... and after a short time I tired of it. It just wasn't happening. I had an SG Standard that was nice and light... i always liked it's tone... tried different pedals just to play with... pulled out the crappy JJ preamp tubes... but nah. I kind of stopped playing again. I tugged an old '95 Peavey 5150 2x12 up to the first floor a week or so back, with a Standard Custom. The magic is there. Tone... liquid joy... I ended up taking the Hamer up to the EVH to try... it sounded killer. The EVH just hates that SG that always sounded good in other amps... hates it. I still think the Peavey sounds better... funny, people complain about it's weight at 84lbs, 12lbs less the a 4x12, but no one complains about the EVH 2x12, that also weighs 84lbs.
  17. Fathers... got a Son? Get on the floor once and a while and play with him a bit. Take him out and throw a ball, hit a puck or toss a hoop. At least know something about his friends, interests and favorite TV shows, they're important to him. Tell him what you do for a living, and why. Be nice to his friends, they'll talk about you, and compare dads, whether he's 6, 16 or 26. If you're into golf, poker, boating or sports, get him involved, at least show him why you like it. The same with any groups or associations you belong to. Take a weekend to go camping or fishing with him, or even just maybe a movie or car show. Take him out to the park or for a walk and talk about life, cars, girls and how to be a good boss or employee. Show him how to BBQ. Share his first beer or whiskey. Explain how to buy his first car, house and about mortgages. Let him know what you've learned about relationships, debt and how to have a successful marriage... Every Fathers Day I think of my dad... for just 5 seconds... and go, where were you?
  18. I got up to 130... now I'm down to 70... it's more how the guitar inspires you then the difference in tone IMHO. Once you have a guitar for clean, dirty and high gain... anything else in the middle is moot.
  19. I always get a kick when people remake a cool song in totally unexpected ways.
  20. Nothing makes you feel older then your music, turned to Musak.
  21. I still think a backwards ML (with the knobs and jacks in the correct right hand spot) would be cool.
  22. My neighbors listen to heavy metal late into the night... whether they like it or not...
