  1. Alright......Just got the hammer (Hamer) down on a 12 string bass auction. Not sure what the H I'm gonna DO with it, or even whether it is a decent price.......Just had to check one more thing off the "Gotta have someday" list. Any recommendations on amplifying, etc? I am NOT a bass player (as anyone hearing me play will probably attest). However, I do have a 200w Hartke head, an SWR cab with 2 x 10 and tweeter plus a Thiele cab with a 300w EV speaker. That will probably have to do, but I am always interested in hearing of different options.
  2. thats great man!!! did you say you still have a Heritage Flattop? Further followup....Noticing your stable of Heritage guitars.......Love to compare notes....... Once upon a time I owned several of their harder to find ones. One Super Eagle was well used, The other was a brand new custom order that the buyer was unable to complete. (I think the factory got something wrong on his order)......The main thing was it was a THIN body. One plain Eagle that was really nice sounding. One 575 and one 575 Custom. A 576 (like the 575 but with a 335 style block inside(!) The Roy Clark had spectacular quilt (Why did I sell it?) The Prospect Custom with Gibson 57s and their VIP system. One of those Gary Moore limited editions ("Pauls"). An H-150 Goldtop. Even the SAE, which was modded to be an "everything" guitar. Routed to drop in Gibson pups, with coil splitters to go with the piezo/bridge thing. All in the past....Just have those 2 left. On to other things.....Too many other things.
  3. thats great man!!! did you say you still have a Heritage Flattop? Yep.....HFT-445 from 1988. I suppose it is the functional equivalent of a Martin D-18(?). Got close to selling it a few times, but took a deep breath and backed off.
  4. That is going to make someone VERY happy. Once upon a time, I had several Heritage archtops, including 2 Super Eagles. Now down to one 550C that was/is the nicest playing of the lot. One Heritage archtop, one Heritage "flattop"....But a lot of good memories of the others!
  5. Just took delivery of an Artist Ultimate this afternoon, after wanting to find one for several years. Thanks to David E for letting it go! I am interested in any comments people have from their own experience with the pickups and sound. It sounds very little like my old Artist Custom (with the Seth Lovers). Not at all bad, just different. Seems brighter, almost like single coils. Also, very powerful output. Of course, besides the "Ultimate pickups", the Ultimate has the ebony board and "Monster Wire" (to the extent that makes a difference). It may be my imagination, but I THINK the top is also slightly thinner. I would say there are SOME similarities with the Custom (HB) pickups on the Monaco Elite, as well as the Double Ds on the Talladega and the Phat Cats on the Newport. Yet still different than any of them. In a slightly different vein, does anyone have opinions on adjusting pickups? More specifically, my (old) Artist has the poles raised slightly in an arc more or less matching that of the fingerboard/frets. Which would tend to give a little more accent to the middle strings, at least relative to the outside strings. The Ultimate pickups are pretty much flat. I fully intend to get used to the way it came setup before messing with it. However, opinions are welcome. I have already learned a LOT on this site (as well as finding the guitar I have long wanted). THANKS! Someday, I should run down a Standard.......Someday.
  6. Those Dunlop sharkfin picks are the great unknown trick.......I bought a couple gross of them and give them to everyone. I stick a small piece of velcro on one side and I no longer drop them as I shift positions. Use as a standard pick, a "doublepick" to simulate a 12 string or the ridged side to simulate a "chorus".
