The Liverpool Legends...

Saw the Liverpool Legends for the second time tonight.  They are fantastic.  George Harrison's sister picked the "George" at a Chicago Beatles tribute weekend years ago.  They partnered to create a band as close to the original as is possible.  And trust me.  Lots of bands are easier to cover and catch the real nuances of the original recordings.

At one time, they had three tribute bands under license traveling the world.  They play Branson and have played to tens of thousands at huge outdoor concerts all over the world.  I read that they played in front of seventy thousand in Brazil.  Obviously not the headline, but c'mon.

They have a Master of Ceremonies "Ed Sullivan" character that is very funny and period correct with his jokes.  My son had no idea who Topo Gigio was, but the crowd cheered when the character was mentioned.  A dated crowd to be sure.

They used four different costumes.  Lots of video waxing nostalgic about the band and the times.

For you "tone" guys, all the guitars were reissues of period correct instruments.  None of the Vox backline had amps or speakers.  "George" used a Helix.  Spot on tones.  "John" played a silver "Fly Rig" with a couple Boss pedals.  Sounded great.

"Paul" was the best musician in the band.  Sounded like Paul.  Looked like Paul.  And is one of the best bass players I've ever seen live.  He never looked at the fret board.  And they played a wide array of songs.  There's some real good bass playing in Beatles tunes that are not only hard to play, but they are harder to play AND sing Paul's part.

"Ringo" was really cool after the show.  I told him, with his limited kit, that he reminded me more of Buddy Rich than Ringo.  He reached out to shake my hand and said, "That's the best compliment I've had in years".

If they come to your town, you should pay the $40.  I've seen dozens of tribute bands.  There are none that impressed me like this.

I saw their show in Branson, probably 20 years ago. It was a great show! George's sister was there for Q&A after the show (that was sort of cheesy)... But I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the later renditions. I agree, go see it if you have the opportunity.
