Coupling cap question

Question

A question for any amplifier experts.. in this amp, a carvin v3, the schematic shows the value of c66 as .047uf, but what actually was in there was .22uf; can anyone comment on what the tonal differences/effects between these two values would be?

The higher the farad value the more Treble gets cut.

I would guess they where trying to brighten up that amp.

I think you're correct. It could have been a factory update and the schematic was never updated or it was an earlier one that didn't reflect the change.  Coupling caps in tube circuits are used for a few different reasons.  They're used with a bright switch for tonal purposes, and it seems like that's the function in the circuit shown.  They're also used to block DC voltage from the power supply getting into the audio portion of the circuit.  In solid state circuits using IC's they're needed to control oscillations in the EQ portion of the audio chain.

I swapped it to a 047 and I think it sounds a little more natural, a little more open

Good.  Sounds like someone did the capacitor swap before you got it.
