Jimbilly Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 I picked up a bass the other day, stooopid cheap, tree fitty without the tree. Dirty and neglected, needed a .5mm neck shim, cleaning and a 'tune up'. Cool bass!, I'll go as far as good, not great, but good. I played it at rehearsal tonight, not disappointed at all. The headstock says "Aria Pro ii The Cat Bass Series": you'd think "bass series" would be self evident, but whatever. It's from Japan, '87, Matsumoku built. 8 pounds 1 oz, the only thing I don't like is the front strap button is 'on top', makes me think it might come off the strap is the strap is a loose fit. Don't pass by one of these if it's a good price. 9 Quote
velorush Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 One of my bosses has a fiver version of that that I've wrenched on from time to time. Like you said, it isn't great, but it is a perfectly serviceable bass and incredibly light for a five-string. He's used it regularly in the P&W band at his church for around 30 years. 3 Quote
planetgaffnet Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 I have a 1978 Aria Pro II Primary Bass that I picked up very cheaply here (UK) on Gumtree - the UK equivalent to Craig's List. I've got basses that are worth 50+ times more than what I paid for it. It was in pretty bad shape, so it's undergone some TLC over the years and I play it daily; 'tis a wonderful thing. Earlier in the year, I had to consider the option to refret or just get a cheapy neck from China, so took the latter option (it cost less!). I'd wholeheartedly recommend anything old that was was made by Aria. Fantastic kit. 5 Quote
