Steve Haynie Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I have owned two flat faced Hamers with non-recessed Floyds and a Robin with an arched top and recessed Floyd. The scale lengths were different between the Hamers and the Robin, too, so I cannot make a direct comparison. The Hamers with the non-recessed Floyds have been the only guitars where the Floyd felt right to me, but it may be because I prefer the overall feel of the shorter scale. The Floyd does seem a bit odd sticking out from the body, but it works. If there were a TOM bridge the strings would be just as high off the body.

Hamers rock Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Very cool, but the black pickup mounting rings look like ass. An easy fix though. I like the black. Keeps the hardware dark and in the background. Light hardware will draw the eye away from the woody wood.
Hamers rock Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 +1 wht's the point if it ain't recessed? And why is that not the "Proper" way to mount a Floyd? + moreI always hated the way non-recessed floyds look, hanging way off the top of the guitar. Recessing is the *classy* way to mount it. Non recessed floyds give me a little extra to rest my palm on. Easier to to mute. With most deep recessed Floyds, the angle for my palm is too steep or flat. So, you can imgaine I USUALLY prefer carved tops, or convenient cuts like my Sceptor (wich is not recessed anyway.).
