Willie G. Moseley Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The only Gibson I now have in my collection is a 1976 mahogany Explorer; the neck doesn't feel like a 2 X 4; it feels more like a 2 X 6... but it's not terribly uncomfortable, and the frets are nice and flat. At the very least it has a "medicine ball" use for almost any other neck on any other guitar I own. I've always thought the balance on an Explorer was surprisingly comfortable. Ditto the Robin Wedge and Peavey Razer which are probably the all-time weirdest pointy guitars ever made. They're surprisingly comfortable as well. That said, since I'm a bass player, I can't stand Explorer Basses, Blitz Basses or Thunderbirds. Way too neck heavy, way too "you-gotta-reach-all-the-way-out-to-there". I posted a thread here a few mos. ago about flipping such an instrument over (or trying a Guild X-79) for better balance but still the pointy look.
scepter-V-lemmy Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 That thing looks pretty sweet Thanks. It's back at MCS now getting modded with a custom electronics package. Here are a couple more shots: My next one in walnut will be this shape: the STARBLAZER
Beergoblin Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I'm not usually into the BC Rich styled guits for the most part, but I think the natural look of that one really pulls the look off for me.
