formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 QUITE some time ago I got an X2N, I think from Scottcrud but it was a long time ago, and I finally got it in a guitar and decided that I was a re-re for never trying them before!!! Anybody got some spares laying around you'd be willing to get rid of for $40/each or so? Is that low? I have no real concept of money.
wyldbil Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Hey Brandon, I have one in my Proto, and it is just too shrill for me. Whatcha got interesting laying around for maybe a trade? Super D? Dimebucker? (I am hooked on the one I have)
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 yep, I gave it to you, so I'm missing something here, you got it in your guitar, do you like it?
formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 I'm actually kind of in the market for a Super D too, and sorry, no Dimebuckers, but I do have several Bill Lawrence L500XLs, some used, some not, in Black and Zebra, from both EZ Wajcman and Bill and Becky Lawrence. I also have 2 L500Ls, and an L500R, maybe.I also have a 59 bridge(zebra), a couple of recent Gibson stockers(black/zebra) (whatever comes in the Vs/Explorers), a Kent Armstrong Vintage G (nice PAF copy) in gold, some random import pickups that I refuse to throw away, and that's all I can think of right now.Edited to add: I think I'm gonna keep the Bill n Becky's. I waited for 6 weeks a piece and they have guitars they're supposed to go in.
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 hey, which of the L500XL's sound better? Bill and Beckys or EZ's? I'd really like to try one.
formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 yep, I gave it to you, so I'm missing something here, you got it in your guitar, do you like it? Um...yes. A LOT. I pulled the EMGs out of my Kaufman V and put that in the bridge and an L500R in the neck and I'm on the fence about the BL(very clear and defined but I like more of an overpowered sound with less definition up there), but not the X2N. That thing is TITS!To tell you the truth, they sound the same to my ears. EZ isn't smart enough to change the original formula other than to pot them in epoxy, which sometimes doesn't pot all that well but he'll replace no problem, and I honestly think Bill isn't really all that 'there' anymore. I think Becky runs the show and I get the impression she's not much of an engineer. The main differences are cosmetic and how long after your order it takes to get the pickups.
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 check your e-mail Brandon. What emg's do you have laying around? an 85 by chance?
formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 check your e-mail Brandon. What emg's do you have laying around? an 85 by chance? Sure do...2 85s, iirc
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 the newer plug in's? or the hardwired ones...
formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 Newer style with the plug ins, man. Edited for clarification. It wasn't a question!
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 http://www.emgpickups.com/displayproducts....d=6&catalogid=2Look at the bottom.
formula73 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 Not really. I don't like EMGs, but I dislike the 85 less.
SirDouglas Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 sorry bud... mr x2n has none laying around man.... sorry.. theyre all in use... i do have 2 double buckers though... which yu can split 4 ways... lemme know ill send ya pics Randy
serial Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I had one of those lying around for years. Finally got it to BCRGreg who needed it for a restoration. It was in an old Standard...(not original!)
wyldbil Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Not really. I don't like EMGs, but I dislike the 85 less. 85 for my double cream X2N?
Scottcrud Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Bill, I'll give you a 81 for the X2N , then I can trade Bran for the 85...
wyldbil Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 What's the difference between an 81 & 85? I just want high gain for the bridge position of my Proto.
Scottcrud Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 The 81 is higher gain, it has a ceramic magnet and has a sharper tone, harmonics city. The 85 is high gain, but uses a alnico magnet and has a fatter tone.
formula73 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 The 81 is higher gain, it has a ceramic magnet and has a sharper tone, harmonics city. The 85 is high gain, but uses a alnico magnet and has a fatter tone. Yeah, the 81 might be harmonics city, but the 85 is chunktown. Some people call them muddy...I think not.
wyldbil Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Who's on first? (Scott and Brandon will see this in context...)
