Hollowbodies unshielded?

Anyone w/ both solidbody and hollowbody Hamers notice any difference? My Monaco has alot more ground hum when I remove both hands from the strings/metal ( you are the ground in a passive guitar! ) than my Mirages,to be fair my Mirage are freakishly quiet and RF/ground noise is as low as possible, I do find that my LP and Monaco have much more noise. I'm sure that the lack of shielding paint has alot to do w/ this, none in the LP and I'm fairly sure none in the monaco, anyone tried to sheild a Monaco better? Badger Dave? Greg?

That would be tough. Probably the best you could do is use coax internally for all the runs (volumes to selector, selector to tone, tone to jack). Gibson used to do this in the '70s.

addited to add:

This is on hollow body guitars only!

I usually go through and put insulation around the pots, and around the wiring.

1) I get the copper wrap and wrap up the pots, and sometimes the switches/cable runs. If I do the cables I'll shrink tube them as well. it's a lot of work for a little better performance.

there's a lot of really powerful radio stations around here :P

This is a common problem with our customers. Many "jazz" guitars are not designed to run in a gain(which adss noise) situation.

The best way to combat this is to replace all wires in the guitar with shielded wire, a time consuming and annoying task. Noise reduction units can bring some relief as well, if taken judiciously(and with food).

Had Hamer thought to put a backplate on these guitars, painting the cavities with shielding paint would be the hot ticket, but Hamer seems to think that no plate = higher cool factor.

Bill, feel free to call me and I can help you more.
