Gabe Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 SOLD! This Sunburst is from 1979 and is completely original, except for the volume and tone knobs. There were black round see-through knobs on it, but the current knobs are like the new ones, look nicer IMHO, and the original knobs were broken when the guitar arrived. I am the second owner. The serial no. is 9 0888. Edited to add: The title of this post says it wrong, sorry. A case will be included. The case is original, however it does not have a Hamer logo. The tuning machines are different than usual, but they have been installed at the Hamer Factory. They are Grover's like the ones on a Newport. As it should be on a vintage guitar of this age there are some dings but nothing serious or through the finish, no scratches. It has got the famous and sought after SustainBlock Bridge with the wider stringspacing like all Hamer Sunbursts from 1979 on, the older ones had a narrower stringspacing and often had a shin underneath the bridge. The Strings go through the body to the back. The body is made from a single piece of mahogany with a maple top from one piece with a nice flame (see the pictures). The neck is also made from one piece of mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard with dots. The binding of the body has aged well with a yellowish tint. As can be seen on the pictures the guitar is honey-colored. The guitar plays well. It has bee set up by a very well known and respected guitar-customizer here in The Netherlands. The sound is as you are being used to by Hamer. A problem is that since the last week the bridge pickup sounds much thinner than before. Probably that is a minor problem, but I am not sure. The pickups are the original DiMarzio's. I want to sell this beautiful guitar because I have some other very good USA Hamers, like my GoldTop with P-90's and a Standard with RioGrande Humbuckers. So for rocksounds the bases are covered and I do not need this Sunburst. The price is $1100 (excl. S/H, but incl. case) If you are interested, please contact me via e-mail: gabevanessen@wanadoo.nl . SOLD! Gabe SOLD!

I thought the earlier ones had wider spacing, the later ones went to narrow. And the change happened in '81.Is the neck profile slim, medium, or chunky?

From 1981 onwards there was the narrower string spacing. So this one has the somewhat wider string spacing, but it is without a shin. The neck is not slim and not nvery chunky, so I guess it is a medium. It is like the ones on my Standard and Studio, so I think it 's the vintage carve. Gabe
