morningstar Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I have to sell some gear to come up with cash. I am not desperate or stupid though. What I don't know is how much a Wizard "Metal 100" 4 X 12 in snakeskin "boa" tolex is worth. It's not mint but not beat either. It's got the rub wear you'd expect from moving it around for its 20 year (my estimate) life. The grille is close to flawless. Frankie has handled it, but few others were ever allowed to touch it. I have only seen 6 or 8 Rock Standard (black tolex) 4 X 12 cabs on eBay in all my time on there (eight or nine years). Near mint R cabs have consistently gone out well over $1000; but I have not seen one on ebay since about 2005. But this is not an R cab, it's a Metal cab. So, I have no "comps" at all to which to refer. I also rewired to so it is two 2 X 12's side by side. The original 25 watt Celestion Greenbacks are still in it. I have all the original wiring stuff for return to stock (e.g. to run one head full stack--but why?)... Just for interest/reference, NOT for sale (I gotta have a cab!)... I also have an "R" Rock Standard model 2 X 12 in black which I paid about $575 for in about 1999-2000. I have never seen another R model (sealed back multidispersion) 2 X 12 on eBay either. I have seen about 4 or 6 classic open backs with openings along the tops of the ends, which serve as "handles". At least 4 of those were sold stacked with a Wizard head on top. Those stacks went out at truly stupid money as I recall. I used the 2 X 12 more often because it was just easier to load in and out and fit better on what passes for a "stage" in some of these dinky dives. So, in theory at least, the rare Metal 4 X 12 should go out well above the 2 X 12 R model... I think..So here I sit. Stumped, but not absolutely clueless. Whose got an opinion as to the value of that 4 X 12?Also, how do I ship something the size of the Wizard 4 X 12? I bought for cash from the prior owner and drove it home in my own car, so it was not shipped to me. It is a bit taller, wider and deeper than a Marshall 1960 bottom cab. I doubt it is as tall as one of those oversize Mesa recto cabs though. It is every bit as heavy as its premium quality and heavy duty Baltic birch construction makes it. My guess is 100 to 120 pounds.thanks guys, morningstar
Steve Haynie Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I have no idea on the price of the cabinet, but if you want a box you might be able to get one from a local music store. NAMM orders have been arriving over the last month and there may still be a few to go. You just have to figure out who makes a cabinet with a similar size. If you have a Carvin store nearby they might sell you a new box. You can buy 4' X 8' sheets of styrofoam board at a building supply store to pad the sides and grill.
kurtsstuff Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Are all 4 speakers still in it and you just disconnected 2 of them??
morningstar Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Are all 4 speakers still in it and you just disconnected 2 of them??All four original speakers are it it.They are connected as two vertically oriented 2 X 12's in one cabinet... two speaks on left, two speaks on right. One jack per side. 8 ohm per side. Here's a crappy keyboard sketch...I hope it formats.(L) ®O | O....|O | OthanksmorningstarEdit.. Ignore the dots to the left of center, they are placeholders only.
