For possible trade, Brubaker bass w/2-Tek and Lane Poors

I think I have too many basses. This one has an interesting history. It was Jeff Abercrombie's -- the guy from Fuel -- but he gave it to a buddy who sold it to me. There's some Fuel memoribilia in the case for what it's worth.

You can learn more about Brubakers at http://www.brubakerguitars.com. Basically high-end boo-teeky stuff, very pretty. This one is I think late 90s. Mahogany body, flame maple top, maple neck, cocobolo fretboard with no inlays. Gotoh tuners with D-tuner, Lane Poor soapbars, Duncan preamp with balance, mid, stacked treble and bass, and a push-pull master volume that when pulled does a "slap contour" EQ. 2-Tek bridge. Dunlop strap buttons. The control cavity cover is made from the same chunk of wood as the back of the bass. Action's good and low, sound is very transparent, clear, balanced. I just had a new nut cut as the old one was just too worn out. Also replaced all the saddle height adjuster screws (some were buggery) and put on new D'Addarios. In the photos the top knob of the stacked bass-treble is missing but I got an OEM replacement so it's complete and totally functional now.

Condition: Top is really good, a few little pencil-point dings here and there. Some fretwear but not enough to be a concern. It's very "played in": the edge of the fretboard is actually worn in where Jeff's hand tended to be over years of touring and recording. The back is also really worn: not so much buckle rash as it has been played SO much that it is hind of rough and matte on the back where the neck meets the body. The clear coat is basically rubbed away on a quarter to a third of the back from thousands of gigs. The control cavity cover is slightly concave from years of being tightened. Jeff clearly took very good care of the bass as it has no gouges or any signs of abuse. And clearly played it a LOT, with the back being rubbed down and the neck feeling so played in. Comes with well-worn but secure hard case.

I suppose if you want to hear it, listen to the first two Fuel CDs.

There's one like it on Guitar Center's site listed at $1999. I'd assume the back isn't as worn out, but it doesn't have the D-tuner, the 2-Tek, or the Lane Poors, which I've seen sell for $450 a set. GC usually bargains some on used stuff (subtract $200) but the cool pickups and bridge and tuners on mine... (add a few hundred) well, let's say this bass is prob'ly worth $1500 to $2100 depending on which way the wind is blowing. Y'all correct me if you think I'm way off target.

So I am way more into the band I play guitar in than the one I play bass in. I've got a P-bass that functions fine, plus the B8S... so whadda y'all have to trade? I guess I'm open to just selling it, too but in a perfect world maybe one of you has a decent Les Paul, a Guild Bluesbird (I love those), an Artist Custom, a korina Jr.... I'm into 24.75" scale length, medium-to-chunky necks, P90s, all that.

If there isn't a good match, that's cool. I like the bass a lot. But hey, hit me up with some interesting offers and maybe we can both end up happier!
