They has been playing this multipart series and I just happened to catch part of either the first or second one and that some great clips of the MC5 doing "Kick out the Jams bleep beep bleep". Even had them all doing the synchrozied leg kicks! Ow! Also had Wayne Kramer on throughout that episode commenting on Drugs in the 70's. Interesting show. Maybe I'll try and catch the others.

I enjoyed the whole series. Lots of interesting and often funny stuff in every episode. I also like the doc about the Monterey Pop Festival.

You guys heard any of the Sonic's Rendezvous band box set yet? It's on Itunes now. Some the live stuff is good quality and rocking.

Yep it's always in rotation on my Ipod, love "City Slang" it's killer. They use to come thru Cleveland alot in the late 70's sometimes with Ron Asheton's band Destroy all Monster with the lovely Niagra on Vocals. Caught them a couple of times up at the Second Chance in Ann Arbor. Great live band they should have been big just like the MC5 should have been huge.

Would have loved to have seen SRB live. Scott Morgan is a very underrated dude as well.

Might've posted this here before: Great "Detroit rock" concert in Birmingham, Alabama on 23 DEC 70. Ted Nugent & the Amboy Dukes cancelled due to an illness, but there was still the Bob Seger System, and the MC5 topping the bill. The 5's third album, HIGH TIME, wasn't out yet, but the concert scene on the back is exemplary of what I saw---Fred "Sonic" Smith w/ a Rickenbacker 625, IIRC, Wayne Kramer w/ an Ampeg Dan Armstrong plexi, Michael Davis w/ a sunburst Fender Jazz, and Rob Tyner w/ the biggest Afro I've ever seen on a white guy. Drummer Dennis Thompson had his shirt off by the third number.

A local band named Chair, that had roots in another B'ham rock band called the Rockin' Rebellion, opened.

The 5 were incendiary, doing a lot of new material that ultimately DIDN'T end up on the third album, like a song called "Hell World". Tyner acted like he was speeding his ass off (and probably was). They weren't allowed to do an encore, but interestingly, came back out and calmed the crowd down---"Hey, man, we don't want no trouble...we'll come back."

But they never did.
