ryper Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hi guys, Ive recently aquired a 1983 phantom a5. .. Ive wanted one since I saw a pic in a mag 14 years ago (and my girlfriend treated me to a special xmas present this year)... anyway they are very rare in the UK it seems, so we had to get one from the US...., the thing is the humbucker is not too good (I havent got a clue what it is) so I'm looking to try and find an original or nearest thing to an original phantom pick-up... so does anybody know where I could get one or who is worth getting in touch with to try and get one??? what were the original pick ups?? I think I read somewhere they were dimarzio's?? like I said I live in the UK, so I don't really know where to start!!! anybody got any ideas??? Ryan... I gotta say this site is great, So many sexy guitars around it seems!
serial Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I've got a few around from 80s Phantoms in my parts stash. I love the pickups that they were using in that period almost as much as the original PAF-style ones. The pickups were made by Dimarzio for Hamer and a little hotter than the standard Dimarzio PAF.
phantomsteve Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Sorry for the hijack, but that's kinda spooky = just picked up an old A5 myself, also in the US though I'm UK based. Nearly bought one when I was a kid & they were new, wished I had as I love it!
serial Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I LOVE my Phantoms. This guitar comes with me to every gig.

We do everything from guitar-based 70s classic rock (Kiss, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, etc) to modern rock stuff with everything from 80s hair and classic metal to grunge and punk, so it runs a fairly wide range. The Phantom is perfect for that.

It needs a little bit of tlc, but not too much. It sound is so versatile, and it's nice to have something a bit different.I'm down South near Gatwick airport. Whereabouts are you?
peedenmark7 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 there is usually a couple nice used ones on the stateside ebay.may even be a couple right now...
