hey hamerheads, picked up a daytona from the board a few months back , it had been routed for a bucker in the bridge and came with a sd custom 5, i have never used any bucker in my other hamers (cali's and special fm except jb's), prob is there's no midrange on the custom 5 but i need something just slightly less hot than the jb but not too low output(aka..59er) for my current gig, anyone ever try a sd custom custom in a strat type axe??????? i'm thinkin it might do the trick, oh yeah , i need something that sounds good coil tapped, thanks folks, be cool.............

I've got a Custom Custom in my MIJ Strat..... plenty o' mids in there, but its not well balanced with the singles(too hot)....and it sounds like ass when tapped (think icepick from HELL) YMMV..... :)

edit... I've got a Custom 5 in my Centaura and it sounds nice and full...AND mixes with the singles fairly well,

I've never tapped it though (because I hated the other so much :) )

i was playing at the gig last night and i everytime i went to solo it was like "shittttttttttt, where did all the nice cutting mids go ????????" the rythym's sounded chunky and full no doubt, coming from jb's the last twenty years it's quite a difference, the more i think about it the coil tap might not be needed................

The new Dimarzio PAF bridge maybe??? :)

it's funny, i've always been a duncan guy, kinda feel like i'd be cheating(i know, really stupid) but i'd give my left orb for a killer tone so i'm gonna go to their site and check it out.........................

I always thought the SD pearly gates was hot in the mids, tiz what Fender uses in there HB strats with 5 way switch......

I myself never liked them Duncans, the Pearley Gates are pretty good, probably the only set that I like...

i really wanna try the gates, maybe in my special fm, i understand they're very mid heavy which i love, are they hot enough though????, i don't want jb hot but not 59 weak either, my only concern..............

I found the output of the PGs in between those two myself, and not many Duncans I've felt are midheavy really...

thanks, i just aquired the custom custom for the daytona a feww minutes ago but i think i'm gonna try a pg in the bridge of my special.........................

Or if you want to enter the corksniffer territory, you might want to check out some Bare Knuckle pups...

But seriously, get a Dimarzio PAF bridge so that we can have a first review of it... :):)

I've found two humbuckers that sound great split - The obvious Fralin Unbucker and the Rio Muy Grande. I have the Rio in the bridge position of a Tele and a set of Unbuckers in a McCarty.

They are getting rid of all the variants this year, which will be replaced by an all new PAF and PAF bridge models...

The Air Classics still remain though...

a smart business move on their part i suspect, i would like to check em out, when's the release date.............

They normally get rid of certain models if the new pups cover the grounds and is actually on improvement...

None the less, I was told you could still custom order the ones that are discontinued for 2008...

As for the new PAF and PAF bridge models, I would think they are already out, if not, it's only a matter of a short time...
