morningstar Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 OK so I went to the mountain and came back with an A7. Ferocious player. Chunko neck with 80's feel. (shivers). I was going to have Lull go over it, but at this time I am loathe to disturb the mojo. I will patch the worn parts on the Kahler and when it crumps, I will replace it.What I didn't get is a case that will fit the Phantom. Anybody have a Phantom case they could sell?Is there a universal case that will actually fit this beastie? (like closes without putting pressure anywhere?)DON'T PM ME. I am at hamernut at yahoo dot comThankeemorningstar
serial Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Phantom cases are really hard to find. I'll see if a Jazzmaster case would fit-that's a possibility and they're certainly a lot more readily available.
GusS Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 A good fit for the Phantom and most other guitars that won't fit inside LP or Strat cases are teardrop guitar cases. The body compartment is just the right length and is only about 1/2" larger in width.
morningstar Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 I received an email advising me of the following:- quote -Sam Ash sells a case that will fit your Phantom: Made by Groove Pack, part #: GREGCXXXXIt's around $75.If you have a Sam Ash near you, just call and give them the part number to see if they have one in stock. If not, you can get them online from SamAsh.comThis is the only case I found that will fit a Phantom properly.- end quote-FWIW Groove Pak is spelled Groove Pak, no "c". OK folks, this is the longest URL I have ever seen. Here goes:http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp...&GroupCode=I hope that will help somebody who needs to fit a Phantom into a case.morningstar
morningstar Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 All of the above appply to three on a side headstocked Phantoms. The A7 I received from Mount Fung has a droopy hockey stick stock. Obviously longer than a paddlehead.Taking a cue from Serial's Jazzmaster approach, I have decided to give a Epi firebird (1963) copy case a shot. that's a pretty slanted body and the body box is built to accommodate both reverse and nonreverse firebirds. There ought to be enough room for the headstock to with that long scroll head the firebirds have.I gotta get a hard shell around this A7.morningstar
