BadgerDave Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 What would be the estimated market value on a 12-string Newport with a BirdsEye maple top? serial is 151***so 2001 year model. Thanks guys.~Chris$1,000.00 to $1,200.00 was the range a while back, but I haven't seen any for sale recently. Prices in general have gone up on most Hamers.
Stokesdead Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Ive seen the guitar in person (no pictures though sorry.) It is VERY clean. Would it be fair to say the Bird's Eye maple and 12 string version would add a couple hundred to the value that you gave?
BadgerDave Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I was referring to the 12 string version, of which 99% were natural birdseye. I bought and sold one in virtually unplayed condition w/ OHSC 2 years ago for $1K. $1,400.00 might be little high, but you're not likely to find another for sale soon. The guitar is certainly WORTH $1,400.00.
Stokesdead Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Thanks Dave. guitar is not mine but a local friend's. I suspect he has his on a Taylor T5. Bad decision if you ask me.
cmatthes Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 When you consider what has happened to the Rickenbacker market pricing (new and used) in the last 2 years, I'm sure that the price of the Hamer will be a STEAL for a more playable (at least for me) instrument. I am a big RIC fan, but have played the Newport 12, and it's just a much better built/playing guitar in my opinion.
stonge Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Current list on a Newport 12 is $3700; I forget what it was back in 2001 but I'd guess it was probably at $3000 list when new. With the recent price increases, it seems that recent (2001+) Hamers are almost going for as much used as they cost new (depending how aggressive the dealer discounted at the original sale). I picked on e up recently, but I would think $1300 and under would be a good price, and $1500 might not be out of bounds. You could always price out a new one and wait, but that will not be any cheaper IMHO. Great guitars though.
andrewz Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 If he's willing to ship, let me know what price he settles on - I might just be interested in it...also, just to throw this out - i'd probably be selling a 3-hole duotone to pay for it, if he'd be interested in a trade (plus some cash)...
