PS&A: Orville SG

I just picked up an 88 OBG SG (Cherry Finish). While I won't get it until later this week, my experience with Japanes guitars has been consistently good.

I think I can comment on the price since it's a PSA (but someone correct me if I'm wrong). The BIN is, IMO, pretty high, even with the upgrades. The seller does have a Best Offer option, though. I believe the current MV based on the trade value I gave for mine is in the $800 - $900 range.

That also is the current rate for used Gibson SG Standards, one of which I sold about two months ago and I think somebody has for sale at about that price on the board now.

So used Orvilles and used SG Standards have about the same market value?

I don't know a ton about SG's, but I would put the Orville by Gibson (the one I am getting) more on par with a custom shop '61 reissue as they have similar construction, nitro finish and US hardware and pickups. My experience with Japanese made guitars is that the quality generally surpasses similar model production guitars and approaches the custom shop. Given the choice between a production Gibson and a similar Orville by Gibson at the same price, I would choose the OBG every time.

The Orville on ebay is a slightly lower model that has had some nice upgrades. The main differences between the Orvilles and Orville by Gibsons is the Orvilles generally used lower quality hardware and pickups and were finished in poly vs. nitro. I'd say this one is definitely on par with a Gibson SG standard, but I would still prefer an OBG.
