DavidE Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 I use a 2 channel amp with lots of pedals. It sounds to me like you need alot of different sounds. Have you tried 2 different amps? It's alot of crap to lug but it might be what your looking for.Tried that. Too much crap.
bobbymack Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Actually, now I remember a couple of amps that got pretty close...a Rivera Jake 112 combo and a Gibson RVH30. Wonderful Fendery cleans as alot of Riveras have, then it had a 3 or 4 button footswitch that had 2 extra gain stages, reverb on/off, can't recall the f/s config exactly...but a very cool amp. Should have kept it.The Gibson was a 30 watt head running 4 El84s, out of the Trace Velocatte design camp but with lots of extra features, including a 4 way footswitch and clean / dirt channels, boost, etc...I believe Kilroy is the proud owner of that stellar amp these days. Out of production for a few years, but around used. Other Riveras may be worth a shot too...
DavidE Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 I had a Rivera M100. Never really figured out how to get what I needed out of it.
Mike Lee Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm in the single channel non-master amp with pedals camp. Set the amp up for low gain distortion with the guitar volume all the way up, roll down the guitar volume for clean, and OD pedal for gain boost. But when you're at home and want to get good tones at low volume, or at a gig that prevents you from getting any distortion out of the amp, you'll need a higher gain OD or distortion.I have been experimenting with a Keeley modded Rat along with the TS-808's. A TS at half gain into a Rat at half gain works really well. The Rat is crunchy alone but with the TS ahead of it you get a great saturated sound. Just keep the gain on both pedals at a reasonable level and you won't get feedback. But then again, the Baked TS-808 full up on it's own is very cool too.
DavidE Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 I took out the Marshall 2553 tonight and dusted it off. Plugged in the pedalboard with 4 or 5 gain pedals, my MM4 and my DL4. None of the harshness of my SpiderValve. Now.... 2x12 or 4x12 Friday....
Mike Lee Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Dave, just dump everything else and keep the Naylor. Or sell it to me.
DavidE Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 Dave, just dump everything else and keep the Naylor. Or sell it to me.LOL... I may take one of the Naylors out Saturday, but no channel switching. I want to take the Electroverb 38 but there's something sounding weird with it.There's a Super 38 combo for sale on the Gear Page!
hardheartedbill Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 single channel amp set to breakup up when hit hard, country clean w/ guitar volume @ 7 , pedals for dirt and boost if needed, now yer gigging!
KH Guitar Freak Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 single channel amp set to breakup up when hit hard, country clean w/ guitar volume @ 7 , pedals for dirt and boost if needed, now yer gigging! Doesn't really happen with the Twin Reverbs or JC120s, unless it's stupid loud...
sirDaniel Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Yeah, but I have to have true clean tones too.... For me, rolling back the guitar's volume does it for me. But again, that's an approximation. Squeaky clean like a JC-120 ain't happenin'. Thats not true Chris, I thought you liked the big "ear splitting" clean of:

DavidE Posted September 24, 2008 Author Posted September 24, 2008 OD's on my board for this weekend..... a Rockland County Amps Bluestone (my brother's new venture), OCD v 1.4 (really version 4), Tim, Timmy. Then, of course, the amp's gain channel and the rhythm channel clip. I have an MI Audio Tone Zone on the board but not hooked up if I feel I need to add something higher gain after the first set. I can't see needing it though.
