  1. I'll dissent somewhat and say that I'm real happy with the CAE / Bradshaw wah...really flexible, the boost button is nice too (both Q and Boost are variable), I prefer the gold to the red inductor too. The other really cool thing is that they've gotten rid of the white noise that nearly all wahs have...not hifi sounding, just less noise. I've sold 2 Buddas, still have a Teese RMC3 and a Wahzoo, which is also pretty cool.
  2. Hmmm, nice. Does that have a 10" or 12" in there? Any interest in a Goodsell Super17 head or 62 Am Vintage HotRod Strat??
  3. Union scale. We do either 3 sets of 60 with 20 minute breaks or two sets of 90 with a 30 minute break...
  4. My 4 piece cover band has survived 10+ years and running, with I believe minimal turnover...we're on our 2nd drummer and 3rd bassist due to resignations, and have replaced one guitar player for a better player / vocalist. We have keys and chick singer available as needed but fairly rarely, we average about 35 gigs a year. The hardest thing I've learned is re: material. As Poe and others have said, you cannot get by playing only things you want to play. You have to be willing to put one wheel in the ditch material wise, as i like to refer to it...we still mix our chestnuts in there, but there's alot of schmotz all of us would rather skip in our "good time rock" setlists...."they" want to hear it, and you better play it. Brick House anyone? Arghhh. Also, we've gotten alot more gigs since we added pro vocalists (a fulltime frontman/guitarist in Austin for 10 yrs before coming back home, and a "veteran" bass player with really good soulful vocals). We do 3 part harmonies on most of our tunes, and the fact that we moved me over to lead guitar to accomodate our Austin boy on rhythm and vocals has gone basically unnoticed...I generally play simple, melodic lines that fit the song and it seems to work fine, people care about good vocals, not guitar rage. Another lesson there as others have said... Be professional always. I just got thank you notes from the 2 ladies who gave us about $10K in gigs each of the last two summers...because I sent them flowers and a thank you note at Thanksgiving. I will get first pick of their date calendar again this summer. Thank your host, promote the club, its specials, and its bartenders and servers. Mention their names. People love to hear their names. Look good, no shorts unless you're outside and its 90 or hotter. Engage the crowd with dialogue and humor, don't take yourselves too seriously. Create a party atmosphere, you're not playing at Radio City... Find people who have similar wants as far as playing out and rehearsing goes. Get good PA gear. Have a good website. Promote. Do some charity events. Have fun.
  5. Rip Les, you are a true icon in the guitar and music world, and we are all richer for your great contributions and inspiration... God bless.
  6. Dunno, never played a regular... Obviously I'm open to a committed offer, I know the odds of this guitar bringing a decent price (especially on this board LOL) are slim at best, so try me...if nothing else it will be humorous to see what it brings.
  7. This guitar is pristine, and an awesome example of the quality coming out of Hamer's Custom Shop these days. Brazilian board, gorgeous 100+ year old earthen maple, custom Duncan Double D pickups wound for these guitars, 4 way switch....arguably the best Hamer out there right now in terms of innovative design, craftsmanship, and tonal options. Weighs 7.2 lbs (chambered). This was bought new from Wilcutt's, and has been played only in my house...no gigs for this beauty (as yet anyway!) These listed at $5300, I'm asking $SOLD shipped in lower 48. Paypal e-check preferred. I'll get some more pics over the weekend. OHSC, all Custom Shop documentation etc No trades please.................
  8. Remember Me / Willie Nelson Queen of Hearts / Gregg Allman These Days / Jackson Browne / Gregg Allman Why / Annie Lennox Let's Go Out Tonight / Blue Nile Fields of Gold / Sting Throwing It All Away / Genesis The Moon & St. Christopher / Mary Chapin Carpenter The Difficult Kind / Sheryl Crow Waiting In the Weeds / Eagles Something's Always Wrong / Toad the Wet Sprocket Last Train Home / Pat Metheny Snow On The Sahara / Anggun Bell Bottom Blues / Derek & The Dominoes One Place / Everything But The Girl
  9. I just saw Buddy Guy last week, and he was really good. Great shape for a 75 year old man...lots of energy, good playing, good show. Very entertaining 90 minute show.
  10. There are lots of artists that I listen to discs at a time, especially when cruising down the road... Hendrix Pink Floyd Steely Dan Allman Brothers Band Wes Montgomery Charlie Christian Eric Johnson Mark Knopfler Old Doobies Miles Davis
  11. Yeah, I'm done with the DB too...good strings, but not worth the aggravation to me. In this day and age there is just no excuse for that kind of customer service. The D'Addario Pure Nickels are really good, though hard to find. Super Bullets are good, and actually the Gibson Vintage nickel strings are really good too. Curt Mangans are my current faves...
  12. My Earthen Tally's feelings are so hurt... but, I'll take Gwayne's new TT...
  13. Yep, we had 32 gigs from May thru September, now we are sucking some serious hind titty....
  14. Well, this guitar arrived today, and it sucks ass. I keed, I keed. It is unquestionably the finest Hamer I've ever owned (of 11 or 12 USAs), and possibly the finest guitar period. The top is drop dead gorgeous with deep 3D ribbon curls in addition to the mineral streaks / bog sludge stains etc. The craftsmanship and setup are flawless, except for a tiny stick in the B nut slot which I'll fix tomorrow. The neck is a killer soft V, with a real nicely grained Brazilian fretboard. The pickups go from jangly clean to roaring P90ish with a spin of the knob, with alot of territory in between. The 4 way selector switch is perfect, with the series setting giving a nice humbucker growl. The guitar has a little bit of tele twang, even a bit of Ricky jangle when clean, a good bit of strat snap, some P90 roar when turned up, as well as the bucker growl when in series. Sweet! Sustain block bridge. And only one Victory inlay which is nice. Also, a back pleasing (and harmonically rich) 7.2 lbs! Honeymoon for sure, but this guitar is slaying me so far. A truly state of the art creation.
  15. Couldn't resist this one...Earthen Talladega #1 of 25. Should be here tomorrow
  16. Just saw this, arghh. Prayers sent and best wishes...stay up, it will work out!!!
  17. I go with either DR nickels, SOS vintage or rock, or sometimes D'Addario on my electrics, and have had good and not so good experiences with them all. Some last a real long time, others of the same brand go dead quicker, who knows why... As said above, the onset of tuning problems is the telltale sign for me that it's time....
  18. Looks like a nice one to bend over the back of the sofa in the dressing room...
  19. Really sorry to hear this, we'll say a prayer for you. I lost my Mom unexpectedly back in August, and it's the toughest road I've ever been down. Believe that she is in a beautiful place now though, and she will be with you every day in spirit. I think about and appreciate both my Mom and Dad more since they've been gone, weird the way that works... Hang in, it's tough, but you'll get through.
  20. OK, to summarize add'l info requests on the remaining pieces... The Kingsley D32C is near mint, virtually new JJ power and rectifier tubes, Tung Sol and Sovtek LPS 12AX7s. The amp has delicious reverb, and has the "C mod" in addition to the London Power Scaling...in addition to you being able to run either the EL84s or Octal tube pair on their own, the C mod allows you to blend the output levels of the EL84 pair and the 6V6/6L6/EL34 etc pair to taste, a very cool feature. You can also run either or both pairs in pentode or triode mode. You can run the clean channel and/or the gain channel with an A/B box. You can bypass the tone stack with a mini switch, and use just the global Tone control to eq the power tube output to taste. The cream tolex is the heavy elephant kind, and the amp comes with a heavy vinyl Kingsley cover for transport. Plus, if you ever have a problem, Simon is always pleasant, helpful, and as near as your phone...he's been aces to deal with from Day One of ordering my Deluxe 30 almost 3 years ago. Many others here have echoed this point as well. Santa's Christmas Kingsley Blowout Price: $SOLD Both of the 2001 R8s have plenty of normal playwear, but that said are in excellent shape and play and sound really good -- so much so that I couldn't decide which one to sell. The lighter, stock LemonDrop one has had a pro refret; otherwise its all stock with the '57 Classics etc. No COA. The Custom Authentic with the ribbon curl has upgraded pots and caps, Duncan Antiquities, aged hardware and factory Grovers (though the guy I got it from had installed klusons for awhile before reinstalling the Grovers, so there are extra holes just like the old ones had when Duane et al pulled the klusons for Grovers back in the day, go figure), and a COA. FWIW the guy I bought it from is a pro player who has toured and recorded (with this guitar) with Steve Lukather among others. Both of these Lesters are "good ones". And, Santa Claus is coming to town, so... '01 Lemondrop R8.....now $GONE '01 Custom Authentic R8.....now $2900 Finally, the Fender USA Hot Rod '52 RI Tele has upgraded kluson locking tuners, a Glendale bridge and saddles (you tele guys who haven't checked these out need to, the intonation is perfect!), a super smooth rubbed out satiny nitro finish, and a sweet sounding Duncan Antiquity mini hum in the neck. I switched the aged control plate around to move the pickup switch out of the way, but that is reversible in 2 minutes if you choose. There is one 1/2" dent along the top edge under your forearm if you look for it. $1250 is a steal for this lightweight beauty with all these upgrades. Shipping and Paypal is extra. Cashier's Check / MOs are strongly preferred in this price range. Plenty of references here, Hamer board, ebay, etc etc... Santa Claus is coming to town kids. You been naughty or nice? Deserve a little something for yourself this year?? C'mon!!!
