BCR Greg Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I just got a cool 1994 Hiwatt by the "Audio Brothers". 50 watt, EL-34s, Partridge Trannies, Fane 12" speaker. Has anyone ever seen one or know about them? This thing is LOUD! Did they make a head version?
GusS Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 the audio bros had the hiwatt name during the mid-late 90's and built them in the UK real close to original specs until they went out of business. they did heads too. avoid the american-made ones (which look slightly different too) from the late 80's-early 90's.how much are you askin for this one?
BCR Greg Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 $1299 or trades. I'd love to find a head version and trade, then I would KEEP the damn thing. I am blown away by this. A HUGE difference from the typical 80's Hiwatt.
Turdus Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Hiwatt has changed ownership several times. I am not familiar with the Audio Brothers versions. I've had several of the Hylight era models. I've also owned a Lead 20, which was a distortion animal, but a later era Hiwatt, and kinda cheaply constructed in comparison to the early ones. There are definately reissue Hiwatt heads out there.... Reissue meaning of the DR103, etc... the ones Gus mentions may be the "Lead" models, which are definately not like the originals. Recently, they were either made by, or distributed by Fernandes.
tomteriffic Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 The closest thing to either those, or the original Hiwatts are the Harry Joyce amps, even rarer than the originals, if that's possible. Harry was the guy that Dave Reeves hired to do the mil-spec wiring and who eventually oversaw production of the originals.
BCR Greg Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 This thing is all handwired, following the Reeves thing to the T.
