Stike Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 i've been to a few. About every club in town has several bands a night, something for everybody. If your bud doesn't have a hotel yet he's probablly outta luck.
Brewmaster Posted March 6, 2005 Author Posted March 6, 2005 i've been to a few. About every club in town has several bands a night, something for everybody. If your bud doesn't have a hotel yet he's probablly outta luck. He's supposed to be playing somewhere so the hotel is taken care of for his band. I'm supposed to meet up with him Monday and get the details. My sister lives about an hour or so away in the San Antonio area so I may spend some time there. Rick: Thanks for the info. I'll let you know if I'm heading out that way. It's a fer piece from Amarillo for sure but if you happen to be trucking towards Austin....
Scottcrud Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Hey Brew, it's a music mecca and a huge pain in the ass for us Austinites, I don't even go out while it's going on anymore. When we do play we don't get paid, your gear is outside on the street so you have to have someone gaurding your equipment, there is no parking at all, we played last year, I had to park near the capital which is about 4 miles away, we didn't even get free beer and this was a venue that we always get free beer and food at. Just move you in and out like cattle off to slaughter. But for the music lover it's probably a pretty cool thing. Let me know if you're coming.
Stike Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Hey Scottcrud( or any other Austinites ), you got a decent digicam and a little free time? I'm needing some photos a few of my fave. spots in town. And Brew, if you make it to San Antonio with a camera could get me a couple of shots of The Acapulco Drive In. It's an utter dive of a Mexican joint but it has a certain uber dump charm that I love, pretty goo flautas too.
Kurt L Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Hey Stike,What pics are you looking for? I've got some nice Austin shots alreay on my computer.P.S. Scott's desription is accurate. SXSW has gotten so big that a lot of the fun has gone out of it for me. You can't get in to at least half the shows. But on the other hand, it's a great chance to check out tons of bands you've never heard of.
Stike Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 We're decorating our kitchen with 8X10's of our favorite restaurants. Just alot from NOLA but weve got a few spots in Austin we love too. If ya'll got 'em or are in the area(don't make any unessicary trips on my account) we were wanting The Boiling Pot, Threadgill's(N. Lamar), Shady Grove, El Soy y La Luna, Frans, Top Notch, Iron Works BBQ.Thanks Guys!
