belgian Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 As I had my birthday on 30th of June, my daughters wanted to give something I really digged. So they gave me a voucher to buy some gear.As I am struggling (obsessed) to get a decent (acoustic) sound out of my T-51F and my duotone, I bought this :http://www.d-tar.com/mama_bear.shtml Anyone any experience with it ?
tomteriffic Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 I've heard good things about it, but have not yet heard it.
Buzzy Fretts Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 From a fellow posting recently over at the Sound Reinforcement section of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum:"I was fortunate enough to score one of the first batch of D-TAR Mama Bear preamps. It is spectacular. Using it with a D-35 and a Gibson J-185 12 string. I have spent a small fortune over the past couple of years on pickups, preamps, etc., searching for the Holy Grail of acoustic amplification. Mama B appears to be just that. Makes my D-35 sound like a pure, rich, woody, chimey louder version of itself. The Gibson 12 string sounds obscene it is so tasty. Highly recommend you go to the D-TAR website and read up on these. Perfect tool for acoustic purists needing to amplify their instruments."
atquinn Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Sounds like it does wonders with an actual acoustic, but I wonder what it will do for an electric with piezos like your T51f (or my Parker). Let us know how it is. If it really is great, I might get one. If not, I might pick up a Magicstomp. They cost pennies and I believe they can do everything an AG-Stomp can do.-Austin
straightblues Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I was at the Seymour Duncan factory about 2 months ago and got to play one. I played for about 1 hour and heard others play it also. Yes it is truely very nice. It is on my short list of gear purchases.
straightblues Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Belgian - I am assuming that you got you Mama Bear by now. Tell us about your experiences with it!!!!
