Caddie Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 My Clubman has started to act up on me. Changed all the tubes one by one, changed speaker cabs, changed speaker cables, no dice. After 15-20 minutes of playing the amp volumes drops dramatically, comes back up, drops back out, etc, etc, etc.... I suspect that this 12 year old head is in need of a cap or 2.Anyway, I'm no amp doctor. Anyone know a good one they can recommend in the general Chicago area, northern IL? I'll even drive up to Milwaukee and use it as an excuse to get in a round of golf with my cheesehead buddies.Recommendations? Thanks in advance.Noonan
jsbabinec Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I've had amp work done here. It is a small hole in the wall but they have a good amp guy. The place is mentioned in "Dave Funk's Tube Amp Book" for what it's worth.Minstrel Music Ltd(847) 965-2550 8041 N Milwaukee AveNiles, IL
tbabinec Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Mike Bacino is in Arlington Heights. He has his own line of killer amps (vintage 18w Marshall reproduction in various configurations). He has been in the amp business for years and is very knowledgable and approachable. His # is 847-736-4987.
FunkyE9th Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Give Roselle Music (630-529-2031) a call and ask for Joe. He knows of a guy who builds his own amps (I think it called Alchemist) and does repairs. I think the guy is based out in Elk Grove. I believe he converted Joe's Carvin Nomad to point to point wiring. Tell Joe Ferdie sent you.-FunkyE9th
Brownsound Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I had the same thing happen to my new Budda SD18 combo...it turned out to be the Rectifier tube. Im assuming you changed that with a known good one as well?Could be a solder joint that has finally gone bad on you as well.
