JJ Paul Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 As Kiz quite correctly points out - why do they install "normal" off-the-shelf components in such expensive guitars? Why do some people feel that $240-$300 worth of puppies in their hi-end guitfiddle is "too much"?It really beats me.I recently had contacted a luthiery shop to propose some german handmade pickups (guess...) for their $3k creatures. The reply was that Seymours where cheaper and helped to keep the price down.On a 3000 dollar guitar... C'mon...JJ Paul
ac15 Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I used to like higher output "hot" pickups in my guitars, but now, regardless of whether I play rock or anything else, I prefer to have a pickup that's not overwound or super hot, since I can always compensate at the amp stage or with pedals. Overwound pickups usually sacrifice tone in favor of volume unless specific measures are taken with the design to ensure otherwise (like the Harmonic Design Vintage Plus pickups in my Tele). They have a high output, but also have a wide frequency response, are not midrangey or "woofy" and have great clarity. The Duncan P-90's in the Monaco III honked too much for my taste.
kizanski Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Call me crazy, but I like the stock p90's in my M3. Sure Lollars are better for clean / blues, but for rock and roll, I like the ouput of the SD bridge. Ok.You're crazy.
