tafkathundernotes Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Ever since I heard Jim Morgan's Dry band "What's Yours" album, I've wanted to put stereo-wired passive humbuckers in my 12ver. To me, that's how a 12 string bass is supposed to sound. So.... out with the old.... And in with the new... Seymour Duncan passive soapbars. Sorry for the fuzzy picture, but the speed knobs look bitchin' on this thing. At least I think so anyway! BTW, this is JackC's old featherweight 12ver. I'll give a tone report after tonight's rehearsal. Just a quick check in the living room shows a LOT better tone.
Jack C Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Ooh - I want to hear how this one works out! I love that bass but as you know, it was always a fight to get enough defined lows without getting into screechy highs. Make sure to report back. My B12A probably needs to go passive...By the way - that bass needs a proper nickname. Something like "helium" or "holy sh!t, this 12ver doesn't give me a hernia!"

Moose Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Screech the Raven, never more...Get to playing that thing and report back on your impressions, post haste. I've been doing a good deal of hand wringing, myself, over the possibility of putting bartolinis or something non-EMG in mine.
tafkathundernotes Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 Will do - but remember the Duncans are a lot cheaper than the Bartolini's. Maybe with good reason, I don't know.I think Warmoth is selling the Duncan pair for $112. right now. The best price I could find on the Barts was $95 each.
Stevieconlon Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I've got the Bart classic bass PU's in my T-bird conversion.Passive is way cool.
Moose Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Passive is way cool. What value pots are you using? Also what wiring scheme did you go for? With 4 holes, there's the choice of two volume, two tone, or a balance a volume and two tone, etc... I suppose even a switch could fill a hole.-Moose
tafkathundernotes Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 I've got a volume (300K) and a tone (500K) for each pickup. The jack is wired out stereo, which I run to a splitter box. The bridge pickup goes to the guitar amp and the neck pickup to the bass amp. I didn't get to try it much tonight. I still need to adjust pickup height and play around with the settings on my pedals. Hang in there while I figure it all out!
