bizzwriter Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 THD is selling off a LARGE stockpile of 10" speakers for crazy-low prices. $50 for a quad or $15 for singles. Add shipping of course. Here's a link to the ebay sale page for the quads. No affiliation. I am not Andy Marshall, nor do I play him on TV.

I have a Marshall PA 20 watt head (similar to the 2061x reissue, also known as lead and bass model). Right now I'm playing it through an old Traynor cab with 8inch speakers. It sounds really awesome at moderate volumes. But I'm not happy with the sound at louder volumes, playing with a drummer, the distortion is getting kind of harsh. I'm thinking that the speakers might be the problem. Anybody have any thoughts if these THD speakers on E-Bay would be a better fit? Thanks for your time. ps, I hope they would fit in the cab! Have to do some measuring.

Have to do some measuring. I don't know if this would help, but they would sound best in open back or partially open back cab configurations. We have a vintage Quam here in my studio - probably the least efficient alnico speaker we have, but it sounds very sweet. A great speaker for recording, FWIW.

Don Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I ordered a set for my '67 Super Reverb. Four bad speakers were the last thing keeping me from finishing it's restoration!
