Grounding Wire in Duotone Custom

Question

Howdy experts. According to my wiring diagram, there should be a ground wire from the mag pickup volume control to the "grommet ground." That wire appears to be missing on my Duotone Custom and appears to be the cause of my hum problem.

Question: Where is the "grommet ground?" I assume a prior owner forgot to reinstall that ground wire when s/he changed out the pickups.

Thank you.

Assuming that what I need is a ground wire from the back of the mag pickup volume pot going into the side of the control cavity..... that's what's missing. Where does that wire go and how do I replace it?

Thanks

David, my best guess is that a "grommet" ground refers to a common ground point, probably a star washer soldered to the back of a pot. Using this type of ground point is quicker and cleaner than soldering all of the various grounds directly to the back of a pot or other ground points.

In any event, unless there is something unusual about the grounding requirements of a Duotone, it doesn't matter. If you know where the ground wire originates (i.e., which tab on the volume pot), you can solder the other end of the wire to any ground point. I'd run it to the back of the tone pot or wherever the other ground wires terminate.

Hope that helps.

Not sure how that particular piezo system works, but are your strings grounded? I know that ungrounded strings can cause hum. Is the hum only present in the "acoustic" mode or when you're on the magnetic pickups?

Hum is only present in acoustic mode.

After talking with Kim Keller, it seems that what I'm missing is the ground wire that goes into the side of the control cavity to the metal string grommets.

Or that

:)

Wonder why they don't call it a "ferrule ground"?
