e-isle rock Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I have Dimarzio Steve's Special in the bridge and Dimarzio Area 58's in the neck and middle positions. The mini switch is bypassed. All positions on the5 way selector sound great except position 2 for the bridge and middle. Itis totally unusable. Sounds very weak and out of phase maybe? The bridge pickup is 4 conductor and the middle and neck are 2 conductor. All pickup'sred leads go to the 5 way switch. And all green leads are going to the backof the volume pot with the bare wire going to the pot as well from the hum-bucker. The white and black wires from the humbucker are tied off together.Anyone know where I went wrong? Thanks in advance!
Jem Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 http://www.hamerfanclub.com/wire/centaura.pdfAs a first check, otherwise check Dimarzio's site, you never know the mid pickup may be reverse polarity for some reason.

zenmindbeginner Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 So did you get it worked out? My Centaura's 2nd position is pretty strange. It sounds totally cool and usable through my POD X3Live in the high gain settings but sounds absolutely horrible through my Super Reverb. I too have Dimarzio Areas (67) in the neck and middle but haven't changed the SD JB bridge humbucker yet.I'd be interested to know if the Dimarzio Steve is the magic pickup for the Centaura... it's a bitch to get the pickup combination in the Centaura just right. I seem to be pushing it to be an incredibly versatile guitar that will do an SRV tone as well as a high gain shred sound.
e-isle rock Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Haven't had a chance to dig into it yet. I'll let you know though as soon as I do.I had a Ibanez JPM100 which had a Steve's Special in it I really liked. So I put one in my Centaura and really like it with this guitar too.
Mike Lee Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 If it's out of phase, reversing the magnet in the HB should fix the problem. Alternatively, you can try reversing the red and green wires on the HB.
e-isle rock Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Thanks Mike Lee I'll give it a shot.

The notch positions and bridge sound good.Which would be closest to a strat sound in the neck and middle with this guitar, SD antiquities or the SSL-1's? Had APS-1's and didn't care much for those in this particular guitar. Thanks again!
