Weber MiniMASS Attenuator

Lately, I was investigating in the Attenuator sort of thing and came across the Weber MiniMass. The Weber seems to work completely different than most other attenuators.

Has anyone made experiences with the Weber?

Probably used the line-out for recording?

I would like to know how that worked out as well.

How does the principle affect consumption of highs?

I use one on gigs. Works very differently than the resister based stuff. Adds a touch of compression, but in a good way (to my ears). Overall sound is pretty well preserved.

The trouble i had with the resister based stuff was they tended to sound farty on the lows. I don't get that at all with the Weber.

Note - the way i use mine is at gig levels, so i set the amp where i likes it, and use the Weber for the volume control. Usually, it's at about 7 or 8, so i don't use a lot of attenuation.

RIP, Ted. We miss you.

If you are going to use the line out for recording or headphone use you will really need a speaker simulator. I use a cheap Behringer speaker simulator and then go through a cheap, little Xenyx mixing board. Works fine for me, although I'm sure their are better and more expensive simulators and mixers.

Maybe that's the reason they added a speaker emulator to the XLR based line-out in the Princeton Recording I came up to recently.

I'd think the emulator adds distinct color to the signal. On the other hand, what's "wrong" with the pure signal? Finally the signal banned on CD, the speakers of my stereo would add its own color to the sound and the playing would sound much different compared to the tube amp's built in speaker.

The reason I am asking is that just yesterday I managed to connect the digital line-out of the Princeton Recording to my notebook for a recording test for the first time. Playing the recording from file sound wise turned out to be a totally different animal than the sound from the tube driven speaker.

It wasn't a surprise to me, however. And I think that the digital stuff presents its own interpretation of what tube amp sound ought to be or not.
