Washburn J-6 Wes Montgomery...

I had another hollowbody from that era (mid-'90s) called the J8 Memphis. It had a shallower body and P90s instead of humbuckers. Otherwise it was pretty similar. I replaced the stock pickups with the Rio Grande Bar Pack and it sounded and looked really killer. Build quality was good and playability was excellent. I think these were sourced from Cort, meaning the build quality and fit and finish were very good. As usual with these they could do with a pickup swap, but if these are the Asian-sourced "Duncan Designed" humbuckers, they actually sound pretty good.

If it's in excellent shape (especially with case) for less than $400 you're getting a good deal.

I'm not too familiar with Polytone's history but I've played a few, and that looks like an early version of the Mini-Brute, which is typically a 100+ watt 1x12 solid state particularly liked by jazz guitarists (Jim Hall, George Benson, etc.).

I had one,

Korean build, decent fretwork, kinda dark sounding pickups. It sounds good as a solo guitsr, but gets lost in the mix with an ensemble. if it's cheap enough to get and replace the electronics, it's a pretty solid guitar.

I've met two. One was owned by the premier solo jazz guitarist around these parts. As usual, it got a pickup swap, but the guy took it out as his gig guitar almost nightly and sounded great on it.

The other belonged to a buddy (now my brother in law) who specialized in jazzy blues. He put a complete set of Gibson electronics in it and it did him just fine until he could afford a vintage L5. I played it a fair amount too and it was a really decent guitar. I nearly bought it from him when he got the L5
