'Dirt'y Minded Music Mania

In the last year or so I have become hooked on the Texas/Oklahoma 'Red Dirt' music scene. Bands like Stoney LaRue, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Mickey and the Motorcars etc. There's not a lot of guitar acrobatics, but the songwriting and melodies are just fun as all hell, and get me singin along more than anything I've run across in years.

Anybody else enjoyin this stuff as much as I am? Any other little sub-culture pockets of good music goin on in the US I need to learn about?

Since I'm local to this little scene, the allure is kinda lost on me. I'll be nice and only say that most of it makes me want to injure puppies when I hear it.
